Who Is Sally Terrington Funeral Celebrant?
Born in Rotherham but now living in Sheffield, I have a 24 year old Daughter, a small but close family and lovely friends. In 2005 my Father passed away suddenly and then shortly after I lost a close friend too and was very involved in organising their funerals.
I couldn’t help but feel that the service delivered didn’t live up to the standards and warm memory my family and I wished for my Father’s goodbye.
I decided that there must be a way to capture a person’s soul that would tell the true story of their being. A way which would grasp tightly on to person’s spirit and beliefs. Their character and personality. And be able to timelessly deliver these unique stories as legend long after they have departed this life. My interest in becoming a Funeral Celebrant had began.
I decided to volunteer my time to a local hospice in Sheffield with the Oral History service they run. This very special and heart warming service offers terminally ill patients the opportunity to record their life stories on to audio format for their families to take comfort in after their passing. This service also progressed into Photographic Memory Books and a music disc capturing favourite pieces of music with special meaning.
During my time at the hospice, I meet so many incredible, strong human beings including patients family member’s and people from all walks of life. It is only when you are so near to death everyday that you realise how amazingly unique and special each and every one of us are.
It was a combination of all the above events that inspired my calling to funeral celebrancy, and I made the decision to train to become a certified Funeral Celebrant with The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants during the summer of 2013 with the aim of helping families create truly unique and befitting funeral services which capture and reflect the real life and times of their departed beloved, by simply listening more to the incredible stories and wishes of those he or she loved most.
I would be honoured to bring this ethos and understanding to your funeral arrangements, and to help you give your loved one the send off they deserve.
